Web Editor Annotator — New Features & Updates

What's New

The Web Annotator has been rebuilt with a new layout, smarter tools, and feature parity with the mobile app — making it faster and more consistent to annotate photos on web.

Why It Matters

Inspectors who annotate on web now get the same experience as mobile, more control, and tools that remember their preferences.

Details

New UI Layout

Tools moved from a bottom icon-only toolbar to a labeled left sidebar
Sections organized by function: Annotate, Crop, Color, Rotate, Brightness
Matches the mobile app layout for a consistent cross-platform experience

Keyboard Shortcuts

Draw shapes faster without clicking the toolbar:
Cmd/Ctrl + C
= Circle,
S
= Square,
L
= Line,
A
= Arrow
Note:
Shapes still require mouse to draw — shortcuts select the tool only, they don't auto-apply a shape
ESC
closes the annotator

Annotator Settings

Set a default color — dotted circle auto shifts by comment type (green = info, orange = recommendation, red = safety)
Set a default shape, so your preferred tool is pre-selected every time you open the annotator

Magnifier

Draw a circle or square over any area to zoom in
Adjustable magnification slider
Full image stays intact — the magnifier highlights the zoomed area without cropping

Crop

Preset aspect ratios: Free, 1:1, 16:9, 9:16
Edit or revert to original after cropping — the original image is always preserved

Undo / Redo

Now available on web, matching mobile behavior
Reset option wipes all changes — requires confirmation

Custom Color Picker

Full color customization now available on web
Color swatches appear inline in the sidebar — no longer a floating panel

Caption + Location

Caption field moved to the top of the annotator for faster access
"Add Location" button surfaces premade caption options
Or type a custom location directly in the caption bar

How to Enable

There are two different ways to enable the improved annotator
Off by default
To toggle on: open the
web editor
→ Click the gearwheel → toggle Annotator Improvements on
To toggle on: open the
mobile app version 10.37.0
→ Hamburger menu (top left) →

Note:
This setting controls both web and mobile. Crop and Magnifier require the updated annotator to be enabled on both platforms to work.
